• J’Nai Cooper has been selected as the Navin Narayan National Convention Youth Speaker alternate for 2004. The honor which will take place at the National Red Cross convention in St. Louis, Missouri, May 19 – 23. The Youth Speaker at the national convention represents all American Red Cross youth and addresses the potential, achievements and hopes of young people.

J’Nai is a junior at A.R. Johnson Health Professions High School and has been an active Red Cross volunteer for four years. She currently serves as vice president of the Augusta Red Cross youth board. She is active in all aspects of the youth program, including serving as a facilitator for our leadership conferences, assisting with all fundraisers and volunteering in the office. She is also actively involved with student government at her high school and with her church. She is an exceptional role model for all young women and a tremendous asset to the Red Cross youth program.

• Arjun Sebastian, president of the Augusta Red Cross youth board has been selected to receive the Navin Narayan Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to two individuals who have had exemplary service to the Red Cross and have attained academic excellence. Arjun has been a Red Cross volunteer for eight years and is a straight A student at Lakeside High School.

Both awards will be presented at the national Red Cross convention in St. Louis, Missouri May 19 – 23rd. The Augusta Red Cross will be well represented by six youth representatives, Lynn Reese and Birnie Florie.

• The Youth Board held a rummage sale on April 17th and 24th to raise money for their upcoming trip to the National Red Cross convention. They raised about $3000. Thanks to everyone who donated merchandise, mothers who helped staff the sale and special thanks to Barry Storey, Hull Storey Developers, for the use of the facility at the Kroger Shopping Center on Columbia Road.

• The Youth Board held an Elementary School Leadership Conference for 4th and 5th graders on Saturday, April 24th at Augusta State University.
